About the Journal

The Journal of the Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences (JVIMS) is the official journal of the Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences. It is an open access, peer reviewed journal published twice a year in both print and online formats. It was first published in 1977.

Focus and Scope

The Journal publishes articles related to the field of Medicine. Articles may be in the form of Original Articles, Review Articles, Case Series, Case Reports and How I do It. Any submission from allied fields which may add substantially to the field of Medicine will also be considered.

Publication Frequency

JVIMS will be published twice a year - January to June (in June) and July to December (in December).

Policy on Plagiarism

The responsibility for the originality of the submission including but not limited to all text, data, illustrations, descriptions of procedures, etc. lies with the author(s) only. JVIMS is not responsible and will not be held liable under any circumstances of alleged or proved plagiarism. Any article found guilty of plagiarism post-publication will be removed immediately without any intimation to the author(s), followed by suitable action, legal or otherwise, against them.

Policy on use of AI

If a manuscript has been prepared with the help of any AI programme (eg Chat GPT) the same should be mentioned in the covering letter. Author attribution in such a submission must reflect the same. If the manuscript carries no such attribution but there is a reasonable suspicion of use, the submission may be rejected.

Long Term Preservation Policy

The articles in JVIMS are preserved by the Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan library as hard copies.

Corrections, Retraction and Editorial Expressions of Concern Policy

We strictly follow the COPE guidelines available at https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines

It states that:

"Journal editors should consider retracting a publication if:

• they have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabrication) or honest error (e.g. miscalculation or experimental error)
• the findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission or justification (i.e. cases of redundant publication)
• it constitutes plagiarism
• it reports unethical research Journal editors should consider issuing an expression of concern if:
• they receive inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct by the authors
• there is evidence that the findings are unreliable but the authors’ institution will not investigate the case
• they believe that an investigation into alleged misconduct related to the publication either has not been, or would not be, fair and impartial or conclusive
• an investigation is underway but a judgement will not be available for a considerable time Journal editors should consider issuing a correction if:
• a small portion of an otherwise reliable publication proves to be misleading (especially because of honest error)
• the author / contributor list is incorrect (i.e. a deserving author has been omitted or somebody who does not meet authorship criteria has been included) Retractions are not usually appropriate if:
• a change of authorship is required but there is no reason to doubt the validity of the findings Notices of retraction should:
• be linked to the retracted article wherever possible (i.e. in all electronic versions)
• clearly identify the retracted article (e.g. by including the title and authors in the retraction heading)
• be clearly identified as a retraction (i.e. distinct from other types of correction or comment)
• be published promptly to minimize harmful effects from misleading publications"

In addition, author(s) found guilty of serious misconduct may be banned from further publication in the journal for a period of time to be decided by the Editorial Board. The decision of the board would be final in all such cases. Any legal dispute would be considered under the jurisdiction of Kolkata (India) courts only.
